A THANK YOU TO MY READERS – NOVEMBER 16, 2018
Hello everyone, I want to thank you all for joining me on this 4 year journey. My hope with this page was to try and recount what our grandparents and great-grandparents lived through from 1914 to 1918 and to give readers a sense of what life was like in those days. I hope I succeeded and that you enjoyed the posts. I especially want to thank those of you who purchased my book or attended one of the presentations I gave. I assure you it was very much appreciated.
On a personal note it’s been a great experience for me. I’ve learned a lot and met some wonderful people along the way, such as the men and women in the various American Legion posts I had the pleasure to visit and those in organizations like Saving Hallowed Ground who care for monuments and memorials around the area and tend to the graves of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. These are great people and I’m honored to have met them.
I’ve also gained a deeper respect for the people of Philadelphia who lived in those times. They dealt with war overseas and a terrifying epidemic at home but through it all they kept working, donating what they could to charitable organizations for the suffering people overseas and at home, supporting Liberty Loan drives and volunteering in social and patriotic organizations to support their men.
And of course, I have a deep admiration for the men and women of Philadelphia and the entire Delaware Valley who joined the fight. Thousands were injured and over 3,000 of them would never come home. The stories I’ve read and learned from the descendants of these men and women have deeply touched and inspired me. The research I did also has given me a greater appreciation of my own family’s life and struggles in those times.
Going forward I will from time to time write posts on things that occurred after the war that I hope you will find interesting, but for now the daily posts will come to an end. For now I’m going to spend some time researching and working on a few ideas I have for future books.
So again let me thank you for supporting this page and I do hope you enjoyed the trip back in time as much as I did.
Yours Sincerely, Pete Williams
